As we kick-off marathon season, thousands of runners will lace up to participate in this 26.2 mile endurance race. To prepare, each individual embarks on a rigorous personal training schedule to ensure they are at their best physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually come race day.
Life is a lot like a marathon, isn’t it? You have to commit to do the work and adopt the behaviors that, if practiced consistently, will move you forward and allow you to achieve your life and career goals.
But whose race are you running?
It’s easy to get swept up in someone else’s success story. You want to achieve similar results so you tell yourself that what appears to be working well for them, should also work well for you.
Or, perhaps you’ve convinced yourself that it’s just easier to follow the course you find yourself on - the one you know, the one that is predictable, the one that is comfortable - versus consciously choosing a course that might better serve you.
The truth is, everyone’s journey is unique. Prescribing to a vision of success that is not aligned with your values, beliefs, passions and purpose - or complacently following a path of convenience - will not allow you to achieve your personal best.
So, where will the current course you are following lead you?
