Recognizing all of the valuable and meaningful experiences your career may bring to your life – a sense of purpose, source of passion, financial stability, self-fulfillment – it is not the sole sum of your life.
While it is true that most people spend more time at their job and with their co-workers than they do at home with loved ones, the quantity of that time spent does not equate to quality of life lived.
I recently learned of a loved one who reluctantly took a medical leave of absence from their job due to a build-up of debilitating stress and anxiety resulting from continuously increasing work demands and expanding responsibilities, well-beyond the original parameters of their job, ultimately impacting their overall health. Months of trying to push through, meet expectations, do the right thing and convincing themself that, “it just is what is it”, resulted in tangible trade-offs of their holistic well-being.
