It’s What You Do After That Defines You

How will you rise up and forge ahead from a life-altering career event?

Whether you have experienced a life-altering career event or not, this message is for you because at some point, you may need to hear this.

The event itself does not define you.  Rather, it’s what you do after - how you respond, rise up, and forge ahead from that event that shapes the future you.

If you have been part of a reduction in force (RIF), layoff, role elimination, or maybe you’ve made the proactive decision to walk away from a job to preserve your mental, emotional and physical well-being, it’s what you do following that event that makes all difference.

How you move forward, find new purpose, and allow peace, calm, and serenity to emerge following the job loss is entirely up to you.  You get to choose when, what, and how to pursue your what’s next.

While that may sound daunting in the moment you are living, it can also be empowering, freeing and a path to healing.

A life worth living is not about:

· sticking with a job because it makes sense on paper; 

· staying the course in fear of judgment and ‘what people might think’ if you choose to move on;

· shouldering the shoulds, must dos, and have tos that swirl in your head as you try to convince yourself that inaction is the only option. 

The ‘after’ is about finding the courage to choose yourself first and allow choice to emerge by pushing away the outside influences and inside voices that create real or perceived barriers for new paths to be forged with clarity, confidence and conviction.

And, finding your way forward is a journey you do not have to travel alone.

Find your soul tribe – family, friends and professionals who will support you, believe in you, nurture your dreams, and provide what you need - faith, trust, coaching, mentorship, and love - as you imagine and create your next ‘why’, and boldly step into and live the ideal life and career you wish to pursue.
