What Are You Masking?

Array of masks
What mask are you hiding behind?

As Halloween fast approaches, many are in the process of deciding what mask they will don to hide their true identity, as they partake in any number of seasonal festivities from costume parties to traditional trick-or-treating.

While there will be many witches, ghosts, and goblins among us this Halloween Eve, I’m curious, what mask will you be hiding behind?

Perhaps you'll be wearing the mask of the “All’s Fine” Seemingly Super Mom; “It Is What It Is” Burnt Out Employee; “Know It All” Pretender Peer; or “I’ll do it myself” Limiting Beliefs New Leader.

What actually lies behind these masks are the thoughts, feelings and emotions you are intentionally trying to hide for fear of judgement, being “found out”, or somehow being seen as less than.

Whether you are masking feelings of inadequacy and low self-worth; overwhelm and anxiety; lack of confidence and self-belief; or fear of failure and uncertainty, it actually takes more energy to hide behind these thoughts and feelings, than to courageously explore them.

Allow yourself to:

  • acknowledge what lies behind your mask;

  • become more aware of what fuels those thoughts and feelings;

  • accept and compassionately own your feelings;

  • consciously choose how you want to address your thoughts and feelings;

  • emerge as your truer, more authentic self.

Are you ready to free yourself from that which you are masking?
