Should I stay or should I go? You may be familiar with this popular song written and performed by the English rock band, The Clash.
Perhaps both the song title and the band’s name represent the internal struggle you may be navigating as you ponder what’s next for your life and career.
Does the mere thought of retiring or moving on from the security, comfort and predictability of your present career or job fill you with a sense of overwhelm and anxiety?
It’s understandable that moving away from the known or familiar - a company you have served for years, a role you have mastered, or a job that meets your needs – to move toward something completely unknown, different, or new, can be paralyzing.
There is a myriad of considerations to think about, prepare, and plan for when moving from what is to what’s next from the tangible - financial readiness and healthcare coverage, to the intangible - personal fulfillment, purpose and passion.
As you ponder your personal situation, is your inner knowing - the voice inside your head and feeling in your heart - telling you it’s time to move on from your current now but you’ve somehow convinced yourself that it is better to just stick it out, weather through, or shoulder on?
If so, how might that choice be impacting your mental, physical, or emotional wellbeing?
What if worry, fear, apprehension and self-doubt didn’t get in the way of you exploring, creating, or pursuing a new path or charting a new course?
What if making a choice to retire, transition or pivot, turns out to be the best decision in this moment for the life you are living?
