Words are powerful and when they take the form of a label, they have the ability to either instill a sense of empowerment, encouragement, motivation – smart, talented, athletic - or create limiting beliefs, self-doubt, a lack of confidence – simpleminded, timid, lazy.
Either way, labels play a huge role in influencing how we see ourselves; what we pursue in life; actions we take; and how we show up in the world.
Whether a label has been “assigned to you” by someone you love, look up to, admire – perhaps a parent, grandparent, teacher, friend - or “self-assigned” by your own judgmental inner voice – you have the ability to push away, change, reframe and replace long-held limiting labels with more empowering words, phrases, thoughts and beliefs that represent and reflect the person you are today, or the who you wish to be in the future.
So, what limiting labels have you taken on?
When assessing a label, first ask yourself is it true? If in your mind it is, how do you feel about the label? Is it serving you? What limiting beliefs, if any, does the label bring up for you? How might the label be preventing your personal growth or getting in the way of living full out?
Creating new thoughts and messages that embody the characteristics and attributes that are more authentically you, is the first step toward garnering greater self-worth.
How have your limiting labels influenced who you are, how you show up in life? What labels are you ready to shed or reframe?
