What "Makes" You Happy?

Inner Happiness

When you think about this question, is your immediate response to name something external - people, things, experiences, or events - as the source of your happiness?

The truth is, the answer to this question lies within - literally.

“Happiness is a choice not a result.  Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy.  No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy.  Your happiness will not come to you; it can only come from you,” Ralph Marston.

Being happy and exuding the anabolic energy associated with that feeling contributes to how you show up in the world, and how you show up is how you are received and perceived by all the people with whom you engage with on a daily basis - leaders, colleagues, team members, family, friends, and neighbors.

Now, this is not to imply that you need to be euphoric each and every day.  Certainly, there are times in life and at work when our desire and ability to connect to our inner happiness is challenged.  However, knowing and trusting that you are always at choice when it comes to making a conscious decision to allow your happiness to flow, is empowering.

What does happiness look like and feel like for you? When is it difficult for you to access your happiness? How might your life be different if happiness was a consistent conscious choice?
